Brief History

The Thompson Zoo has served the citizens of Thompson since 1978, providing visitors with a zoo experience including a variety of animals ranging from llamas to raccoons. Zoo programming focused on community gardening, recycling, healthy food initiatives, and injured animal rehabilitation, among other initiatives.

As a result of financial challenges, the City of Thompson and the Thompson Zoological Society started a process in the late 2000's to reimagine the zoo.

In 2011, the Master Plan for the Development of the Boreal Discovery Centre was approved by the City of Thompson and the Thompson Zoological Society, presenting a bold new vision for the Thompson Zoo.
